THRICE AT EMO'S IN AUSTIN - PHOTO GALLERY BY MICHAEL MULLENIX

FELLOW BEASTS! On the big list of bands that eluded me forever, Thrice has definitely been a big standout on that bill.  Truly defying convention and blurring the lines between genre, Thrice has been a trailblazer in the modern rock scene and worked to redefine themselves with every new album.  On Monday, September 24th, the consistent original lineup for the band showed up at the Emo’s concert hall in Austin in support of their new album, Palms. As a powerful method of cementing the new material, the band’s lights enveloped the 4-piece in an ethereal glow as they rocked into the new track, Only Us. Through an impressively extensive set list the band was able to showcase newer fan-fare like Hold Up A Light and The Grey, while still highlighting the essentials of 8 previous albums.  Songs like Black Honey with it’s haunting rhythms, or the punishing beats of Firebreather, to the reflective if not whimsical grooves of Anthology, show the wide-cast approach of Thrice, brought together by a dedication to change the formula of their music.  One of the new interesting songs from the new album definitely had to be The Dark, a steady rhythmic anthem that practically cries out in defiance at every chorus. Ultimately the band brought the night to a close on their two hits from The Illusion Of Safety: Deadbolt and To Awake And Avenge The Dead, sending a packed house home satisfied!  It is my pleasure to bring to our humble publication, THRICE!!!
