Northern Invasion
The Somerset Amphitheater has played host to Ozzfest, Summerset and on this weekend in May, Norther Invasion. Boasting a lineup that had high school me internally screaming, the weather played fair for the most part. Even the small drizzle on Saturday was a welcoming cool off for the heated crowd.
Day 1

This Canadian Punk/Grundge trio of brothers was part way through their first US tour when the catastrophies began with a broken down car outisde of Chicago and continued with a loss of sound during their set. While the universe was throwing everything at them, they maintained composure and air guitared their way through Smells Like Teen Spirit and eventually had the crowd chanting their names as the walked off the stage of their first US festival.

The second act for me was another band from out of the States. Counterfeit hails from the UK and is headlining the tour with Dubé. This high energy punk/metal band also came to the US for their first t…

The good times come at the affordable price of $99 (plus taxes and fees) for one day GA. This year, Saturday ticket holders have the option to buy a Friday night ticket for $30 (plus taxes and fees). On May 17th Darkness descended upon the Sunset Strip! SOULFLY & NILE REVIEW BY LANE STEELE

Death metal gods, Nile and Groove metal icons, Soulfly took over the Whiskey A Go-Go.The night was packed full of insane pits and fist pumping, head banging fans. The venue itself was almost filled to capacity.Everyone in attendance was ready for a great show and all the bands did not disappoint. This was a rare treat to have two very different bands in the genre of metal co-headling a gig.At first I was honestly quite skeptical thinking that the Death metal fans of Nile would not stay to see Soulfy’s brand of Groove metal, but I was 100% wrong!
The night started with local act and Whisky A Go-Go veterans, Darksun. They put on a very interactive show where frontman, Jordan Sassone did a great job pumping up the crowd for Nile. The bass player Chris Dale head banged his ass off and prominently wore a shirt saying “Fuck Pearl Jam”, which I thought was funny. The Drummer Dio Britto, who has played in Westfield Massacre as well was an absolutely amazing asset live.Britto played with extreme pre…

Signals (ex-Of Mice & Men and A Skylit Drive) release debut single

It was over 10 years ago that Michael "Jag" Jagmin and Jonathan Kintz last shared the stage together while in the Orange County band Odd Project. After that group disbanded, Jag went on to front the post-hardcore band A Skylit Drive, while Jonathan joined the then newly formed Of Mice & Men. Now, the two of them are back together again in the form of Signals and the duo have released their first single "The New American Religion."
"It's a statement that calls attention to the atrocious downward spiral our nation has put itself in," says Jag. "The lack of empathy and understanding among Americans has hit a disgusting low. People are quicker to attack those with opposing views and ideas instead of embracing what makes us all great, and that is that we are all in fact different." "The New American Religion" was released on the 10 year anniversary of Wires...and the Concept of Breathing, the biggest selling A Skylit Drive album and J…

THE COLOUR YOU Releases Official Music Video for "Set Me Free"

Alternative Rock Band THE COLOUR YOU has released the official music video for their single, "Set Me Free," was filmed and directed by Sidney Lee Lopez.
“Essentially, ‘Set Me Free’ is about questioning whether or not someone could/should be a means of escape from the hell in your head. On one side you've got this damaged soul looking for an escape, and on the other there is this beautiful angel-like figure who’s intrigued by the danger of this damaged “bad boy” image, but not quite brave enough to be that escape.” - Julian Comeau (Vocals)

The Colour You is an American rock band from Baton Rouge, LA. Formed in 2016, TCY puts an interesting twist on the genre by blending hard-hitting, energetic guitar riffs, huge anthemic choruses with melodic vocal melodies, and infusing them with dark modern pop elements.

Barbudo are a British ‘Nu-eyed funk’ group from the south coast town of Havant, Portsmouth. Fusing elements of old-school funk, psych rock and smooth R&B, brothers Ben and Harry Stanworth, along with Elliot Salter have established an intoxicating sound which oozes charm and flamboyancy.
Taking inspiration from the pioneers of 70’s funk, soul and disco, as well as acts such as Steely Dan, Shuggie Otis and The Isley Brothers, Barbudo have concocted a sound equal parts contemporary with yesteryear’s glow. This unique marriage has given the band the distinct sound that has been winning over audiences across the nation.
Following the success of their last EP Pleasures, released under Pie & Vinyl Records, Barbudo are now ready to unveil their latest single ‘Secret Admirer’. Drenched in funk-fuelled melodies, shimmering vocal harmonies and groove-laden basslines, the single radiates sonic colours. Barbudo have succeeded in capturing the sound of summer , complete with the band’s sign…
