NAMM INTERVIEW WITH NITA STRAUSS BY TALIA FARBER

I got a chance to catch up with Nita Strauss at the Ibanez Booth at NAMM, here's some questions...

1. How does it feel to be the first female on the Ibanez Signature roster?

It is truly amazing, I can't even believe that it's real. There are a lot of other super talented girls on the Ibanez roster, but I'm the first one who really got to design and guitar and put it in stores. It's an amazing experience.

2. Why did you choose Ibanez out of all other companies?

Y'know I've played a lot of other guitars, I've played all the major brands and when I got my first Ibanez it was a $200 RG120 which is the cheapest guitar they have ever made. It just felt right in my hands, I've had a couple nice Gibson's some Washburn's and a Parker Fly. Then I played that $200 Ibanez til it felt apart and now here I am. I've been with Ibanez for 10 years this year and never wanted to leave.

3. What's some special things about your signature guitar?

Well when I started to design the Jiva I wanted it to be a guitar that stood out as far as quality, but still was something that a lot of people could buy. I didn't want to make a $10,000 guitar that no one could afford. So this guitar is going to be around $1,499, it's got a beautiful ebony neck, ebony fretboard, mahogany body, quilted maple top. It's got all the high-end specs, but it's actually something people can buy.

4. What other brands do you use/sponsor?

I use Marshall Amps, Dimarzio Pickups which actually my signature pickups are in this guitar, and D'Addario strings.
Marshall and Ibanez sound so good together, I use the JVM 410h which is the Satriani series and it just doesn't get much better than a Marshall. There's a reason why they've been at the top for so long. Dmarzio pickups is the same thing, all my heroes are Dmarzio players for a reason, the pick ups are really solid. They allow you to tell your story as a guitar player with those pickups. I've picked everything I've picked because I love it.
