NOT SO SILENT NIGHT TOUR! W/ RED TIDE RISING, 9ELECTRIC, GEMINI SYNDROME, & DROWNING POOL REVIEW BY COENTHEBUTCHER AND PHOTOS BY HANNAH LEE!
On December 17th, 2016, the Maywood venue in Raleigh, North Carolina venue was packed from wall to wall for the Not So Silent Night Tour. There was a great deal of dedicated fans there to see headliner Drowning Pool, who have been cranking out bad ass tunes since 1996. Along for the metaltastic ride were fellow rocker bands Gemini Syndrome, 9Electric, and Red Tide Rising. All of these bands were absolutely superb together. They all have a passion for the stage that shows they belong there.
Red Tide Rising, a band from Denver, Colorado has a wild presence on stage. The members all come out in masks, and to my surprise the bass player for the evening was actually Drowning Pool lead singer Jasen Moreno. I am not sure a whole lot of the crowd noticed, they were so enthralled in the show that no one really seemed to pay attention. Lead singer Matthew Whiteman has an effortless scream that kind of enters through your ears and leaves through you soul. Their music just grabs you.
Next up was some of the most amazing guys in the world, LA based band 9ELECTRIC! Their live performance is what they pride themselves on. I would not compare their music to anyone else’s simply because it is heart and soul that brings their songs together. There are influences of course, but their songs are little pieces of each of the members and it shows in their performance. Wild hair, leather, and the ultimate rock star experience is what they bring to the table. Ron Underwood went to great extremes to please the massive crowd, by at one put traveling through the crowd on the shoulders of a friends and then by hanging loosely on the pipes above the stage. I know a lot of cool people that were at this show and they all left as fans of 9E!
Gemini Syndrome another awesome band from Los Angeles, has been hard at work for the last year, releasing a new album and being on multiple tour. They have such a unique sound. Seeing them multiple times this year, the band has just gotten more refined. I love the fact that Aaron just seems to be in his own world, singing to himself. The emotion in his voice is something that is not common these days.
Drowning Pool was sensational! Between the old and the new, this band has got what it takes. The connection that Jasen has with his fans is quite mesmerizing. As an added bonus to the show, lots of friends from the tour joined in on certain songs. Vocalist and Merch gal for Gemini Syndrome Erin Porter united with the band to sing hit song “Tear Away”. Jasen and Erin’s voices together were a true pair. By the end of their set, members from all touring bands were on stage dancing, singing, and jamming out.
The Not So Silent Night Tour was a true showcase of talent, determination, and hard work. Fans came from all over the east coast to enjoy an evening full of live music. They left with their hearts full that I can guarantee. One day I hope to see these bands come together once again for another bad ass tour!
