LETLIVE. AT SELF HELP FESTIVAL 2016 BY TALIA FARBER
Letlive. at Self Help Festival were nothing short of phenomenal. The band consists of 4 members: Jason Aalon Butler being the ever so wildly passionate vocalist, Jeff Sahyoun bringing the riffs, Ryan Jay Johnson giving us the funky bass grooves, and Loniel Robinson with the ridiculously good fills on the drums. There's never a dull moment when you see these guys live, they're so full of energy and passion and it's just amazing. They were the last set of the day on the black stage (indoor) so they got to play an extra long set, 13 songs to be exact. Before they even stepped foot on stage everyone started to chant "LETLIVE. LETLIVE. LETLIVE.", so everyone was already excited. To hype them up even more they came out on stage playing Banshee, off of their latest album, "The Blackest Beautiful".
Letlive. never really plays much material off their old album, "Fake History", but everyone was in for a treat at Self Help. They played 6 song off "Fake History", and 6 songs off of "The Blackest Beautiful", they also gave another goodie out and played a song called Good America of their upcoming record. There were many times during the set where Jason did some crazy things, for instance he climbed up a pole on the side of the stage with his microphone and was just going nuts. He also did some speeches here and there and what really stood out was how every woman should be treated with respect and be equal. I remember him saying something like we went to jail for something, but I can't remember what. It surprised me that such a sweet man like him was able to do something to upset the law, but then I remembered how passionate he was and made me think he'll do anything to get his point across.
The best thing about their set was when Jason and the band invited everyone who knew the song Renegade 86' to come up and sing it. Security wasn't happy about that, but no one cared. It was wild, there were at least 70 people on that stage singing and having a blast. There was even a circle pit ON STAGE. It was ridiculous, and it was awesome to see. I've never seen anything like that before and it was a great way to end their set. I love Letlive. because they put on such a mind blowing performance and I can honestly say they're the craziest band I've ever seen live. They're fueled with just a great amount of passion and it keeps their flame going. They never disappoint, ever.
