Scott Weiland Remembered - RIP - Passed Away at age 48
More Bad news, last night Scott Weiland, singer of Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts and former singer of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver has passed away. Found dead on his tour bus last night in Minnesota around 9pm, Weiland was 48.
I want to make this personal, you have already heard the facts everywhere. Family Values Tour 2001 was my first concert when I was in High School, and I remember him being larger than life. The way he moved and strutted on stage made him a quintessential Rock God. Stone Temple Pilots is the ultimate Rock Band to emerge from the 90's a shame that a proper reunion will never be seen again. In 2012 I was at the Sunset Strip Music Festival and he was playing at a small [will remain unnamed] club on the strip. Technically my pass was unable to get me in, but I bribed someone to open the back door and let me in with a camera. This venue is notorious for horrible lighting otherwise those photos would be appearing here today.
Lastly, I got to meet him briefly this year at the Grammy Awards. On the first of 3 days in the media room, he was the first guest who came by and I instantly started taking his photo for our records. In a brief lapse I asked him, "you look familiar, but I can't place from where." He shook my hand, "Oh, I'm Scott Weiland," he replied and smiled. "Oh! You were my first concert!"
Rest In Peace Mr Weiland.
