SLIPKNOT AT THE AUSTIN360 AMPHITHEATER - PHOTO GALLERY BY MICHAEL MULLENIX

My time in Texas has been brief but productive, and now I have one of the biggest metal bands of all time for the website today.  Last Wednesday, Slipknot raised hell in Austin at the Austin360 Amphitheater, a tour de force of from one of the world's most extreme bands with the smell of BBQ and craft beer lingering in the air.  Texas loves Metal, and it was on full display at this show.

Slipknot rode into town with Motionless In White, Bullet For My Valentine, and Lamb Of God setting the mood for them.    Bullet For My Valentine fresh off their new release Venom was an absolute triumph showing off new offerings like Worthless and No Way Out.  Meanwhile Lamb Of God's newest release creeped into the usual stable of hits with Still Echoes and the appropriately named for the area, 512.  These many years since Sacrement and Ashes Of The Wake it is inspiring to see the bare-knuckled brutality of Lamb Of God still going strong and even elevated to the top stage in the city.  This 7th studio album of theirs harkens back to that primal ferocity that made hits of Hourglass and Ruin.

At the end of the night is was up to the Iowa-based nine piece to reintroduce us to their psychotic nightmare-scape.  Undoubtedly, Slipknot's performance is about the theatrics of bringing monstrous and nightmarish figures come alive on stage.  Unlike Gwar's monsters or Mushroomhead's visions on another world, Slipknot's latest mask incarnations take a stark step back to the roots of their slasher affinity and truly haunting imagery.  Starting off with Sarcastrophe the crowd was whipped into a blistering frenzy.  Amazingly for their set, nearly every show is unique from the one that came before it, and fan-favorite deep cuts find their way into the mix.  In Austin we did not get Sulfer, but were treated to The Blister Exists, and instead of Vermillion the band played Purity, a song in nearly a decade of seeing the band live I had yet to have seen live.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome to the website, SLIPKNOT!
