SABATON AT GREEK THEATER - PHOTO GALLERY BY MICHAEL MULLENIX

Of course when we think of bands from Sweden the uniform image comes to mind, Nordic Rockers with long flowing blonde hair and blue eyes...  Wait, wait, wait, I felt this is how I started last time with Meshuggah, we're now talking about Sabaton...  What is it with Swedish singers not fitting the stereotypical description of a Swede these days?  My whole world-view is thrown into free-fall.

All kidding aside, Sabaton opened up recently for Nightwish at the Greek Theater to a thunderous response.  This band was energetic and fun, what typically might seem like a banal description, in this case aptly applied for a band I could not take my eyes off of.  They were not trying to be the most imposing or aggressive or even metal, they were simply an infectiously charismatic group that  performed Metallic Anthems rallying the entire Theater to it's feet.  Were they based on traditional folk songs, were they singing about Swedish lore?  Who cares, pump your fist in the air!  I give you SABATON!
