Bonnaroo Announces SuperJam Lineup!
A.C. Entertainment and Superfly are excited to announce the once again incomparable SuperJam lineup for this year's Bonnaroo. Famous for these signature once-in-a-lifetime experiences, the SuperJam embodies everything that makes Bonnaroo special, as it has come to be known as the festival where experimentation is encouraged, genres no longer exist and superstar musicians who may have never crossed paths become unexpected collaborators in pursuit of pure creation.
This year, Bonnaroo will be hosting the "Throwback SuperJam Dance Party," with Pretty Lights, DMC (Run DMC), Rob Trujillo (Metallica), Jack Antonoff (Bleachers), Chance the Rapper, Reggie Watts, Eric Krasno, Jamie Lidell, John Medeski, Karl Denson, Oteil Burbridge, Robert 'Sput' Searight (Snarky Puppy), Brian Coogan, and Brownout Horns with special guests Cherub, Rhiannon Giddens and more!As with all the SuperJams, the element of surprise plays a big role each year as fans spend months speculating on who might be performing. This year's SuperJam will take place on the night of the festival at .
"My goal is to deliver a show we've never seen before and do it all in the name of pure fun". says long time SuperJam producer Paul Peck. "It's a leap of faith by both these artists and fans and it's very inspirational. Also, I love surprises. "
"...a mind-blowing array of music that played out like the world's coolest karaoke session...You'd have to see it live at Bonnaroo, or not see it at all. Bonnaroo is one of America's best festivals because of performances like the Skrillex SuperJam -- eclectic, unique, and a hell of a lot of fun."
Past SuperJam collaborations through the years have become the stuff of legend, and have included: Skrillex, Questlove, Dr. John, Janelle Monae, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Robbie Krieger (The Doors), Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead), Trey Anastasio (Phish), Ben Harper, RZA, Herbie Hancock, Phil Lesh, Larry Graham (Sly & The Family Stone), Taj Mahal, Ben Folds, Mike Gordon (Phish), Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Solange, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Method Man, Chaka Khan, Derek Trucks, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), and many others. Past years have featured unannounced special guests such as D'Angelo, Brittany Howard, R. Kelly, Schoolboy Q, Billy Idol, Redman, Mystikal, Zedd, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Brittany Howard and many more.
While much of the live work many of these incredible artists do year round with their respective bands is often scripted, offering little room for trial and error, the SuperJam usually involves a disparate collective having only a few days to rehearse and learn a two-hour set, thus requiring the band members to rely on their wits, intuition and innate musicality. This intensive work atmosphere has bred great friendships that are strong to this day. For example, Dan Auerbach ended up producing Dr. John's Grammy-winning album Locked Down reprising the SuperJam on the award show that year, while Brittany Howard and the Alabama Shakes debuted new material at a rare performance at Preservation Hall in New Orleans and Joe Russo is now the drummer in Phil Lesh & Friends as a result of meeting the Grateful Dead bassist at the first SuperJam.
The Bonnaroo SuperJam continues to be an integral part of Bonnaroo's aesthetic and history. The 2015 editions will surely add innumerable memories to this ongoing tradition.
