GOJIRA PHOTO GALLERY AND SHOW REVIEW! FROM THE HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM BY MICHAEL MULLENIX!
On the week of Halloween, a celebration of sin, wickedness, and the occult (and harvest for you traditionalist out there), Los Angeles is over-run by the forces of Heavy Metal. On Monday, October 28th, the festivities were shifted into full swing with the arrival of Gojira to the Hollywood Palladium. This French Progressive metal band has been blazing the trails for over a decade and now brought to heart of Los Angeles as the direct support of Slayer as part of a two night event.
After the house lights came down the band took to the stage opening up on the song Oroborus from the Way Of All Things Flesh album. Gojira's set lasted the better portion of an hour and highlighted the news hits from L'Enfant Sauvage with classic fan favorites such as Backbone and The Heaviest Matter In The Universe. The band’s set is very stripped to its core; no flashy set pieces, no high risers, just a rig of aggressive strobe lights to compliment the quick shifting arpeggios of the guitars. Gojira’s style fluxes back and forth between intricate melodies and low pounding riffs. Sharing the bill with Slayer, they nailed the key requirement for any band in that position; Match Slayer’s Manic energy. Gojira not only succeeded on this but they shined out as a unique and mesmerizing force, closing out on the title track of L'Enfant Sauvage with roaring cries from the audience."
