Western Medication Premiere 'Big City' Video On Stereogum!
Western Medication formed in December 2011 in Nashville, TN as the brainchild of Nashvillian punk Justin Landis. A decade of masking symptoms and playing in Nashville's punk scene had brought Landis to a tipping point. The band was created as, "the remedy against the epidemic of uninspired rock that has been pumped out for years." After his Chinese acupuncturist sternly warned him, "No more Western medicine!" he flushed his ailments sans deductibles, made a rhythm section out of Bad Cop's Adam Moult and Kevin Kilpatrick, and Alycia Wahn (formerly of Useless Eaters), and molded a refreshing southern take on post-punk. It's the coolness ofWire with the veracity of The Damned, the pulse of Joy Division with the ethereal guitars of The Jesus and Mary Chain.
Western Medication will release The Painted World, their debut 7" record, via Jeffery Drag Records on January 29th, 2013. With The Painted World on the horizon, Western Medication is already working on their follow-up project with the help of Cage the Elephant'sLincoln Parish.
Praise for Western Medication:
"Much can be done in under a minute, and the Nashville punks in Western Medication take full advantage of this in their furious grinder "Big City."-- Spin
"Get ready. Nashville based Western Medication are about to bite off your head and spit it back out in the next 58 seconds."--Blah Blah Blah Science
"The song is a chaotic shit-kicker that is set to a “snatch and run like hell” tempo. It packs a punch and I can’t wait for the rest of what these dudes have up their sleeves."-- Stuff and Such
"Western Medication is the next new thing from Nashville, and I think they’ll be getting a lot of attention. “Big City” is the band’s first single, and in 58 seconds, the song is a bit of trashing, angular punk that reminds me a helluva lot of Wire’s legendary Pink Flag album." -- Joy of Violent Movement
