Below you can stream Green Day's first single, "Oh Love," from their upcoming album, ¡Uno! out September 25 via Reprise.
THE EDITORS CHIME IN:
Matthew Colwell, web editor:
Five-minute songs might not be punk rock, but neither are trilogy albums spanning 30-plus songs. "Oh Love," continues the trends from Green Day's past two albums with crunchy, mid-tempo chord progressions with huge choruses. I may have grown up on Dookie-era Green Day songs, so the past (almost) decade may not have treated me so well with the band, but I can recognize a rip-roaring alt. punk guitar solo, so I'm down with this track.
Scott Heisel, managing editor: My response to Green Day's new single being five minutes long is the same as it was for the news of their plan to release three albums within six months: "Of course Green Day are releasing three albums within six months." Basically, these future first-ballot Rock And Roll Hall Of Famers can do whatever the fuck they want, and "Oh Love" is proof. I dig the mid-tempo groove and simplistic instrumentation, as it feels a bit like Warning-era Green Day only with a bit more swagger.
