NIRVANA’S KURT COBAIN WAS WORKING ON SOLO ALBUM AT TIME OF DEATH

In promoting his new book, ‘Letters to Kurt,’ ex-Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson has disclosed that Nirvanafrontman Kurt Cobain was working on a solo album prior to ending his own life in April 1994.
“[Kurt] was headed in a direction that was really cool. It would have been his White Album,” Erlandson tellsFuse.tv, referring to the classic Beatles album. “That’s really what he was going towards, a solo album but working with different people. I was really excited about some of the stuff he was working on. I got to see him play it in front of me. That’s why I was really sad [when he died]. I was like, ‘Oh man, not only are you cutting off a life, but a message to the world … Who knows where the music would have gone?”
Who knows, indeed. Any unreleased material from Cobain would be the musical equivalent of discovering a gold mine, and Erlandson says the possibility exists that fans will hear it someday.
“I heard some talk about somebody putting together some raw, rough acoustic thing … and that would be more intimate than the box set [2004's With the Lights Out], because all those little jams you have to throw out [for that box set release],” adds Erlandson. “They presented some [of the demos] but there is stuff that has not been put out.”
Erlandson concludes that he hopes that one day the songs will surface for the sake of the fans. “I’m not in control of things. I just wish something would come together. I think the fans would be a lot happier.”
In other Nirvana news, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic hit the studio recently with ‘Nevermind’ producer Butch Vig to record music for the Sound City Studios documentary project.
