NEKO CASE PERFORMS AT THE BASS MUSIC HALL IN AUSTIN TEXAS - PHOTO GALLERY BY MICHAEL MULLENIX

Last Friday, February 8th, Neko Case lit up the Bass Concert Hall in Austin, Texas and treated a packed audience to her unique blend of Rock, Soul, and Folk.  The lights dimmed the band began warming up the set with a slow boil track called Pitch Or Honey.  A large portion of Neko Case’s setlist was dedicated to last year’s release of Hell-On with songs such as Dirty Diamond, Winnie, and Last Lion Of Albion. What was truly unique about Case’s style was how many styles she shifted between from song to song.  Being able to transition between a more orchestral, somber ballad like Oracle Of The Maritimes one moment, to the more Americana Country-tinged song Hex, before settling in on the jazz-laced Look For Me (I’ll Be Around) put Case’s performance truly in a league of her own.  The ensemble backing Case lent strength to her already powerful voice and brought the Concert Hall to life in one of the more sophisticated Rock experiences Austin ever beheld. The crowd was a mixture of culture…

THURSDAY PLAY 2 NIGHTS IN AUSTIN AT BARRACUDA ON 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY TOUR - PHOTO GALLERY BY MICHAEL MULLENIX

Fellow Beasts! Celebrating 20 years of being a band, Thursday took over two nights at Austin's Barracuda Club last week for the full play through of 2001's Full Collapse and 2003's War All The Time.  These two albums are separated by only a short period of time but are immensely different, drawing strengths from divergent song-writing methods and emotional energies.  Watching them performed back to back and getting to witness the feverish vigor of the Full Collapse crowd vs the pitch-perfect harmonies of the War All The Time crowd drive this point home splendidly.  Anthems like Division Street, Cross Out The Eyes, Signals, and of course Understanding In A Car Crash made this an impressive pair of nights to seek out music in Austin.  Without further ado, it is my pleasure to welcome to our magazine, THURSDAY!

HALESTORM AT THE AZTEC THEATRE IN SAN ANTONIO - PHOTO GALLERY BY MICHAEL MULLENIX

SEASONS GREETINGS FELLOW BEASTS!  Before the holidays Halestorm was finishing the remaining dates of their Vicious tour which brought them through San Antonio and a sold out show at the Aztec Theatre.  The band was refined had been cut to diamond precision as they took the stage and rocked out the hit single of their latest album, Black Vultures.  From there it was a Rock N Roll spectacle that covered the finest highlights of their career with such fist-pumping, fan favorites such as Love Bites, Mz. Hyde, and Freak Like Me.  Without a doubt though, the tour was a chance to showcase the highlights of Vicious, with the self-titled track ringing with powerful bite from lead singer Lzzy Hale.  You can practically see the venom fly from every word of the chorus.  After a brief break the band came up onstage one last time for an acoustic rendition of The Silence and the encore smashes of I Miss The Misery and Here's To Us.  It is my pleasure to welcome back to the magazine, HALESTORM!
